Post Of The Week: The Final Week

Last week we asked you what your hopes for Westlife over the next ten years are. Lots of you left some lovely messages in the forum – here’s one of our favourites, by Anna88.

Over the next 10 Years, I would just love Westlife to keep doing what they have done for the past 10 years! They have released albums and singles, and have gone on tour and have generally brought a huge smile to the face of every Westlife fan pretty much since Day One!

In terms of the singles, I would love original pop records (although I love the covers, there is nothing nicer than hearing a new song)!

For the albums, the boys should be true to themselves and search for great original pop songs, which make the albums easy to listen to, enjoyable and timeless.

And the big thing is definitely the tour! Each and every Westlife tour over the years has been energetic, phenomenal and absolutely immense! The live singing, the set lists, the dancing and the whole fan experience over the past 10 years have imprinted memories in my mind that I will cherish forever.

So here’s to 10 more amazing years at the top (and the scary thought is that when this "10 More Years" is up I'll be 31) xx

This is the final Post of the Week challenge. Thanks to everyone who took part – we hope you enjoyed writing your answers as much as we enjoyed reading them.

Novelist Ahern reveals pregnancy

Romance novelist Cecelia Ahern is expecting her first child.

The 27-year-old daughter of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is reportedly due to give birth in December.

Ms Ahern, whose best-selling novel PS, I Love You was turned into a Hollywood movie last year, has been with her partner David Keoghan for six years.

A spokeswoman for the couple said: "It is with great joy David Keoghan and Cecelia Ahern can confirm they are expecting their first child."

The baby will be the third grandchild for Mr Ahern and his estranged wife Miriam.

Cecelia's sister Georgina Ahern and her husband Nicky Byrne of Westlife had twins in 2007.

Westlife's Nicky has wisdoms removed

Westlife star Nicky Byrne could have bitten off more than he can chew this week -- after revealing how he is in agony after getting his wisdom teeth removed.

He was sent reeling by the painful procedure, with the married dad needing stitches in his mouth and having to eat soft baby food as he recovers from the operation.

The Dubliner said he had 10 stitches in his gum and "feels like s**t".

"Jaw swollen but feel a lot better considering... last night was in agony - very sore mouth," he said on his Twitter page.

Jelly

And he had to resort to chowing down on lemon and lime jelly in the aftermath of the procedure, which can leave patients unable to eat properly for several days due to the swelling of their mouth.

At least the proud dad had a nice weekend -- he celebrated Father's Day with his wife Georgina Ahern and their twin boys Rocco and Jay (2) with a relaxing meal in the Castleknock Hotel.

Nicky has just a few weeks left enjoying some quality time with his family at their Malahide house before he hits the road again with Westlife.

The popular foursome will be heading to the States next month to start work on their long-awaited album, following a year-long break.

Post Of The Week, Week 20

Our final Post of the Week topic is: what are your hopes for Westlife over the next ten years? Have your say in the forum now.

Last week we asked you which of your favourite artists or bands you’d recommend to Westlife and why. We had a great time reading your suggestions, and here’s one of our favourites, from luvin Mark Nicky.

‘I would recommend Nickelback for the lads, there music is amazing and the style differs all the time so they can do like really rocky songs but then slow ones aswell. Their music is really enjoyable just like Westlife's so i think Nickelback are not only a good band for the lads to listen to but also i think they are a great comparisson the lads as they are different but also the same as they change their style of music constantly.’

Spice Girls top UK live league

By Ben Cardew

The Spice Girls were the UK’s top touring act of 2008, according to figures released by collecting society PRS For Music.

The news comes on the same day that Music Week revealed that the PRS For Music is undertaking a review of its live rates, to the unease of many in the live industry.

The reformed girl band head a top ten that also includes Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen, Westlife, Madonna, Foo Fighters and Boyzone.

In total, UK tour revenues were up 30% to £403m in 2008.

PRS for Music chief executive Steve Porter says, “Live music is more popular than ever and therefore it is a great UK success story, generating huge revenues for UK PLC. In particular, older talent is driving demand. While these trends continue, PRS for Music will continue to make sure that this income is collected.”

The top touring acts, 2005 - 2008 were:

1. Take That
2. Girls Aloud

3. Westlife

4. Status Quo
5. Kylie
6. Kaiser Chiefs
7. X Factor
8. Katherine Jenkins
9. James Blunt
10. The Osmonds

Boyband Rivals To Spar On The Box

RTE bosses are locked in talks with stars from the world of entertainment and sport to take part in a new boxing reality show.

Westlife's Nicky Byrne, Boyzone's Keith Duffy and TV presenters Brian Ormond and Liam McKenna have all been approached to take part in the project.

Kenny Egan will break his self-imposed media ban by taking part as a coach on the show.

Former world champion Barry McGuigan has also been lined up to coach the stars while sources say boxer Steve Collins will also make a special appearance on the series.

In the coming weeks the stars - who will slug it out in a bid to raise funds for charity - will be whisked away to an intensive training camp and put through a punishing exercise regime.

The celebrities will be locked up in a sports complex for several weeks, with no access to family or friends.

They will be put through a gruelling fitness programme, all of which will be cought on camera.

Blood

The national broadcaster won't be pulling punches when the finalists are forced to bash each other to raise money for their choses causes.

A number of hardcore Army drill sergeants and Olympic boxing coaches have been asked to designe training regimes.

Show insiders have promised they will be "extremely tough" on participants, waking them at 5:30 each morning for a five-mile run.

A source said: "I think people are sick of seeing a glut of reality TV stars lounging around in the sun drinking and making idiots of themselves.

"This show will not be for the faint-hearted and those chosen had better be prepared for hell on earth.

"This will be real blood, sweat and tears television and people will get hurt.

"There are a lot of inflated egos in show business so there's a lot at stake. No one wants to be beat up on national television - especially not by another celebrity."

The show is due start screening this August. The winner will pocket up to €20.000 for their chosen charity.

Being a Dad is the Bestlife for Nicky

Westlife's Nicky Byrne is dreading the band’s new tour as it means leaving his two sons at home.

The singer (30) is enjoying father's day after enjoying a year out from music with twins Rocco and Jay.

But with just days until the group get back into the studio in LA and Nashville, Nicky is facing the prospect of having to spend long periods away from his two year olds.

And the Dubliner admitted "It will be heartbreaking to leave them and go back on tour, to be honest I haven't crossed that bridge mentally yet because it is too difficult to comprehend.

“Obviously when we tour the boys and Georgina will come with me as much as possible, but America and the Southern Hemisphere, well I will just have to go away and come back every two weeks.

“They have been on a lot of planes already but never more than a two and a half hour flight. So seven hours or more would be tough, and not to mention for the people around us so it will be something we will deal with. But it will be really tough and I am not looking forward to leaving them behind.

“Saying that, I am not the first person to have to deal with it and there are people a lot worse off at the moment."

Jay and Rocco were born six weeks premature on April 20th 2007 weighing 3lbs 11oz and 2lb 13oz, Nicky and Georgina daughter of ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern were assured the tots were healthy. But they had to stay in the intensive care unit at Dublin's Holles Street Hospital because they were so small, now the boys can enjoy their birthday at their North Co, Dublin home.

Nicky added "Even though it is Father's Day it is the twins who will steal the show."

He said "The lads are great they are flying around the place, they are real lad' lads, and they are starting to talk and getting their words mixed up so it is a wonderful time to be able to spend with them.

“So far for the past few months all I have been watching is Mickey Mouse and Peppa Pig and they are showing a real interest in singing and football."

Nicky is expecting a very special card from his songs and is hoping to take it easy all day.

He said "I am very lucky to have two lads like them."

Westlife Mark: Brian's not in touch

Westlife's Mark Feehily has blamed the time difference in Australia for former member Brian McFadden's lack of contact with the band.

Mark, 29, said: "Brian's living in Australia at the moment with Delta (Goodrem) and he's kind of carving himself his own career out there.

"I haven't seen or heard much from him really but it's a different time zone and different part of the world so that's to be expected."

Asked whether there was a space for Brian if he wanted to rejoin the band, Mark said: "I don't know. We never say never but at the moment we're very happy how we are."

Westlife are having a bit of time out from touring right now, but they are still busy working on an album which they aim to release later this year.

"We're gathering songs for a new album, hopefully we'll have enough songs for this winter, if we don't then it'll be next summer or next winter. Instead of putting an album out each year we want to put out the best album we can," Mark said.

Mark, who was spotted out at the Bruno premiere in London with boyfriend Kevin McDaid, said he thought "uber gay" characters such as Sacha Baron Cohen's fashionista Bruno were helpful in beating homophobia.

"I think if he makes people laugh then it begins to dismantle things," he said.

"He's the ultimate - he's a bit of this type of gay person and a bit of that. He's a few of the stereotypes altogether and he's making people laugh and as long as people aren't afraid of him then he's achieving something."

Get out your BBQ

The Centra Childline Big BBQ is back and Nicky Byrne of Westlife has joined Centra and Childline to encourage people living in Cavan to get out their BBQs out during June and July and raise money for a great cause.

The Childline Big BBQ raised €408,000 for Childline in 2008 and Centra are asking people all over Cavan to register for their BBQ pack and host their own fundraising barbecue at home, at work or even in their local sports club.

Last year’s success was also helped by the many Centra Stores throughout Cavan which hosted BBQ’s for their local communities. Childline is Ireland’s only multi-media listening service, providing support to children throughout the country 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Commenting at the launch, Nicky Byrne of Westlife said: “To raise over €400,000 last year was a great achievement, particularly given the weather we had, and I really encourage people to help us match that amount this year by hosting their own BBQs throughout June and July.”

Des O’Mahony, brand communications manager, Centra said: “We are delighted to be involved with the Childline Big BBQ once again. Following on from the massive success of last year’s event and the fantastic response from Centra customers, we are hoping that even more people will register to host BBQs throughout the summer. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends and all the monies raised goes to a very worthwhile cause. Our aim is to ensure that fewer calls to Childline go unanswered.”

Newly-wed Jodi's Twitter tribute to 'beautiful grandad'

Newly-wed popstar Jodi Albert has revealed her heartbreak over the death of her grandad.

The sultry singer got hitched to Westlife star Kian Egan in a romantic ceremony in Barbados last month, but she has spoken about her sadness over her late relative.

She sparked dozens of messages of support after posting a photo of her with her grandfather on her Twitter page.

The picture obviously holds huge sentimental value for Jodi, who has now made Ireland her adopted home since hooking up with Kian more than five years ago.

"Me and my beautiful grandad...i miss him already...RIP grandad i love you so much. xxx," she wrote.

The star, who's now fronting Louis Walsh's new girlband, revealed how she used to spend every weekend with him and her Limerick-born grandmother as her parents were working at the East End market in London.

More than 1,000 of Jodi's Twitter followers have now viewed the photo of her with her sailor grandad, which has prompted a string of tributes from fans, who have passed on their condolences to the former Hollyoaks actress.

And the wealth of support she got didn't go un-noticed judging by the response from Jodi, who declined to say when her grandfather died.

"Hey guys you are the best! Thank you all for the beautiful things you had said in your msg..obviously i can't reply to all..but will try," she wrote.

The former TV beauty is now busy enjoying life as a married lady since getting hitched to the star in a dream wedding in Barbados, surrounded by all their closest friends and family.

And the couple have prompted speculation that they could already be intending to start a family after getting the green light to expand their four-bedroomed home in Strandhill, Co Sligo.

Creative

Gorgeous Jodi revealed how she "can't wait to start decorating" and said it was "time to get creative" when it came to her seaside home in the beauty spot. The master bedroom will include two walk-in wardrobes, while a nearby room has been described on the plans as a 'baby room'.

The couple, who dated for seven years, will be doubling the bungalow's original size to a roomy 5,231sq ft and plan to divide their time between their Irish and British homes.

Kian splashed out a modest €340,000 in 2004 to purchase the private estate house, which is just a few hundred yards from the plush house which he bought for his parents. The couple also have an apartment in London.

"Kian and I are really excited about our lives together," Jodi said. "And when I do have a baby I want to spend all my time with it, I want to be the one who brings it up. To do that I would have to be grown up myself. We talk about them all the time, but I'm 25, and I really want to give my career a go."

Her comments have been echoed by her smitten hubby Kian, who also manages her new girlband.

"For a lot of people babies come quite quickly, after you get married, but given our lifestyle and jobs it's just not practical."

Newlyweds Kian and Jodi add baby room to new house plans

Newlyweds Kian Egan and Jodi Albert are already planning a family and have included a 'baby room' in an extension to their house.

The loved-up duo have received planning permission for a development at the house at Strandhill, Co Sligo, which includes four bedrooms, a kitchen and living area, a music and entertainment room.

The en-suite master bedroom will include two separate walk-in wardrobes, while a nearby room has been described on the plans as a 'baby room'.

Former Hollyoaks star Jodi (26) and boyband singer Kian, who recently married in Barbados, were granted planning permission from Sligo County Council to extend their home near the sea at Carrowdough, where they also own a bar.

The pair also own a stunning five-bedroom barn conversion close to Jodi's parents in Essex and an apartment in London.

Kian (29) stays in the house in Sligo when he visits his mum and dad at the large house he bought them in the town.

And the couple have been modest in their plans to build their dream home to raise children in.

"Jodi and I practically do live together," Kian said before they were married. "We have our little small house up there in Sligo -- it's by the seaside," he said. "There's nothing big or special about it, it's only a four-bedroom little bungalow. It's all we need."

Gorgeous

The couple, who dated for seven years, will be doubling the bungalow's original size to a roomy 5,231sq ft.

They plan to divide their time between their three homes, but it looks as if Jodi and Kian are planning on settling down in Sligo if they have children.

"Kian and I are really excited about our lives together," Jodi said. "And when I do have a baby I want to spend all my time with it, I want to be the one who brings it up. To do that I would have to be grown up myself.

"Kian's house in Sligo is gorgeous, right on the beach," she added.

The Craic Is Back At Sandown Park

Celebrate everything the Emerald Isle has to offer as the popular Irish Day at Sandown Park returns on Saturday.

Racegoers can enjoy a pint of the black stuff while watching all the exciting action on and off the track, with horses not the only attraction.

Dancing, food, music and entertainment will light up what is undoubtedly a craic’ing day out for all.

Present on the day will Shane Filan from Westlife, a local resident to the Esher venue.

U2 tribute act, U2UK will be playing live after the racing has concluded.

Racegoers may also be tempted to perform a jig or two after watching ‘Ceolsha Dance’ perform throughout the day.

The dancers’ careers have included performances in some of the most successful stage shows that we have seen in the last 20 years, namely Riverdance and Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance.

Bentleys Restaurant is London’s most famous Oyster Bar and traditional Irish grown oysters will be on sale in the Grandstand throughout the day.

Richard Corrigan, the head chef at Bentleys, recently launched his newest restaurant, Corrigan’s Mayfair to great acclaim and is also involved in Lindsay House Restaurant in Soho, London.

A regular on TV programs such as Saturday Kitchen and BBC2’s Full of Food, Richard uses his Irish roots in all of his cooking and will present on the day.

Tickets start at just £18 for Grandstand Enclosure and £26 for Premier Enclosure when booked in advance.

Turn up in emerald green clothing (which must be half the visible outfit eg shirt or trousers) and £5 will be taken off your entry ticket to the Grandstand enclosure.

Racing is a really social occasion and all group bookings of 12 or more receive a 20% discount, booked in advance. As always, children aged 16 or under go free.

Last week as asked who you’d most like to see supporting Westlife on tour. You had loads of interesting suggestions: here’s one of our favourite responses, from Gunners4EvEr.

'They're a lotta good acts I want Westlife to do like a concert together. Acts from BGT, and X Factor. But at the moment, I want Westlife to do it with their dads!!! We've seen them do it on She's The One and that was amazin!! Their dads are amazingly talented! Even my dad luved that clip, which is really not like my dad! So, I bet if they do a few songs with their dads. Everyone, from young to old would enjoy it! At least, I know my dad would!!'

7 days in the life of: Nicky Byrne

Sunday Make the most of the sunshine with a barbecue. Send the minion who updates my Twitter page back inside with instructions on telling the fans how much I love burgers in 140 characters or less.

Monday The great thing about Twitter is that the fans get to know what I'm doing or thinking at any minute of the day. It's all for the fans.

Tuesday Those of you who love me (and you wouldn't be reading this -- with your parents' permission -- if you didn't) will be excirah and delirah to know that Westlife's autobiography is out in paperback. There's even an extra bit where you can listen to us chatting with the ghost writer. I know, hard to believe I didn't write it meself!

Wednesday Keeping this Twitter page up and running is pretty tough and that. You can't keep everyone happy. But here is some exclusive information that you won't hear elsewhere: I chipped my tooth today training!!!

Thursday My tooth is grand, thanks for all your questions and concerns. The only thing is now that I have to get one of the wisdom teeth out. I told the dentist that I don't have any wisdom but the bastard didn't laugh. Do you get it???!!!

Friday I'd just like to release an official statement from Twitter. Thanks to Pat Kenny for all his support over the last ten years. Between ourselves, I dunno how that Tubridy fella feels about the band. He likes swing though, so we should be all right.

Saturday I'm just putting Jay and Rocco on the keyboard. They'd like to send out an exclusive hello to the fans. Hkjjkfdgjklfgooo. That was from Jay. And now Rocco's asleep. But the thought was there.

Or this is how it would be if we were Nicky...

Post Of The Week:Week 17

This week, we want to know which artist or band you’d most like to support Westlife on tour and why. Join in the discussion over on the forum now.

Last week we asked you which Westlife album you’d recommend to someone who hadn’t heard the band before. Here’s one of our favourite answers, from aoifemcd.

‘I'd definitely recommend World Of Our Own to someone...considering I already have plenty of times.I've told so many people to listen to World Of Our Own because I think it not only shows what amazing singers Westlife are but it also shows them singing such a variety of songs such as World Of Our Own and Looking Like That rather than just ballads as so many people say they do.World Of Our Own also shows that Westlife can WRITE their own songs! Most of these are among my favourite Westlife songs especially I Wanna Grow Old With You.

So many times people have said to me that Westlife are a cover band who just sit on stools and sing ballads and everytime I tell them to listen to that album...and most of the people who listened to it actually became fans!’

TV3 newly wed Colette vows to keep partying

Who says you can never wear your wedding dress twice? TV3 beauty Colette Fitzpatrick did exactly that after throwing a lavish post-wedding party in Fallon & Byrne over the weekend.

The Midday co-presenter was the epitome of the blushing bride as she welcomed all her very best pals to the bash, two weeks after tying the knot with station manager Niall McDermott.

Many of their pals from the station were out in force to help them celebrate walking down the aisle, with the after-party happening at Krystle nightclub. They weren't the only ones in raucous form at the venue though.

Chart-topping band Westlife were all in the celeb club with their other halves, given Kian Egan's appearance on Tubridy Tonight on Saturday.

tan

Also spotted propping up the bar was Rosanna Davison, sporting an impressive tan from her recent trip to the south of France.

Other revellers included RTE star Amy Huberman, who had spent the evening at a VIP event in BT2 to celebrate the Barbie doll's 50th birthday.

The store was thronged for the pink-themed bash, with rose champagne and pink cupcakes the order of the day.

Given that Brian O'Driscoll's fiancee had written her college thesis on the iconic doll, it was little wonder she popped in to enjoy the party.

Other attendees included Tara O'Leary, Virginia Macari and Siobhan O'Connor.
